Let Us Get Acquainted
Here is my information. Hope you enjoy reading it. I have a Master of Arts in Human Services: Marriage and Family. I have worked as a Qualified Mental Health Professional with children, adolescents, and adults. This included Intense in-home behavioral services for children of various ages. I provided services located at an on-site day program facility during the summer months and offered after-school programs during the school year. I assisted in providing mental health skill-building services for adults suffering from diverse types of mental illness in the field.
I have experience working within a psycho-social rehabilitation program for adults with severe mental health disorders, designed to promote independence and stability in their community. I am also a retired Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with 20 years of experience. Altogether, I have worked in many different areas of the medical field for the better part of 30 years. Of course, working within the different areas of the medical field has helped expose me to many distinct types of mental illness. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I learned not only through my education but also through interactions and experience.
Writing a blog has provided me the opportunity to share my experience and journey in learning to cope with my own loved one dealing with a mental illness. I hope that by reading the information on my blog website, it will help other individuals to learn to adjust to living with a mental illness, as well as their family members learning to cope with their illness. I am aware that the outcome for each individual suffering from a mental illness is different. Each individual’s goal should be to learn to accept their illness and to gain the knowledge to cope with their mental illness by creating a positive change.
I have learned throughout my life that the stigma that comes from having a loved one diagnosed with a mental illness can cause a lot of pain to the individual with the illness as well as family members. It has given me the ability to understand how everyone has tried to cope with the fear and loneliness of dealing with the many distinct types of mental illness. Mostly, it is when other people judge you based on your illness and the state of your mind. I would love to hear from others dealing with mental illness. Whether you have been diagnosed with a mental illness or have a family member or friend with a mental illness.
Your input can help to influence a story that I may decide to write about. I value everyone’s privacy and mental health concerns. I would never directly use the information provided to place an actual individual’s real identity on my website. Thank you for being engaged in our community to help others. There are plenty of ways that you can become more involved in reaching out to touch the life of another human being, trying to cope with a mental illness, or their family members and friends. I am married and have two biological adult children and two biological grandchildren. I have one adult stepdaughter, three adult step-grandchildren, and one great-step-grandchild.
